In one week on Saturday, November 8th, we will gather by the lake at 10:00 a.m. to vote for our next Board of Directors for 2026. This is an anticipated event where neighbors get to enjoy coffee and donuts together, discuss this past year as well as ideas for the new year.

We hope you can make it, but if you can't, please send your signed proxy (provided with your ballot) with a board member or a neighbor attending. We need 30% of neighbors to elect the new board. That is 24 homes.

Thank you for making this a priority.

It's the beginning of another school year and once again we were able to help provide school supplies to Riverside Elementary School. Thank you to all who made this possible, and thank you to Angelo Intravaia for being our delivery man.

It is so nice to have a newly paved Magnolia Homes Road and freshly painted school crossing lines. This will make going to school much safer for those who walk each morning. Another benefit of winning Corridor of the Year in 2022.

As adults it's easy to forget the rhythm of the school year. That is, unless you have school-aged children at home or like many of our neighbors you work in the school system.

Time seemed to slow down when each school year began in our family. Every day was full of homework assignments, carpooling to and from school or sports practices and packing/unpacking lunch bags. The mundane of every day seemed to make time crawl.

Now for those of us on the other side of this short season of life, time seems to pass much faster.

Time no longer crawls but it's on fast forward. Before you know it what seemed a lifetime ahead of us now seems like only years. This isn't to sound morbid, but the opposite—It's a reminder that time is precious and every minute we breathe is a gift. We can make the most of it by giving of ourselves to each other and our community.

Our neighborhood excels in providing opportunities to help others.

For example:

The People of Lockhart hosted its first fund-raising event this month—a lasagna dinner with lots of fun games and giveaways mixed throughout the evening. Nearly 65 were in attendance and at least 25% were from LBO. Thank you for taking the time to be there. It was a memorable event. And thank you to Lindsey Smestad and Lucy Barnes for serving on the POL board. You represent our neighborhood well.

Trash pick up is a regular need on Magnolia Homes Road. Many neighbors carry in their cars a garbage bag and trash grabber. If they pass trash along the road it takes no time to stop and pick it up. Using a trash grabber keeps you from touching the debris. It's a simple, but effective way to give back to our community. And the best part? You don't have to sign up to do it. Any time spent doing this helps make Lockhart a nicer place to live.

This morning we had the most amazing time together. The best part? The weather cooperated; being the first weekend in May we weren't sure if we would make it with the heat.

The breeze helped and the low humidity made the activities not only possible, but enjoyable.

We had GF pancakes for those who required it. For the others we had a variety of plain, blueberry and the most popular—chocolate chip. It was a great time of connecting and being together. So much life happens it's nice to push the pause button and do something out of the ordinary.

Al Kubik not only hosted our first Corn Hole Tournament, but he built the three sets of boards. Eight neighbors entered the competition. Each round paired us with a different player. When it was all said and done, Geoff and Carla Johnson on Tall Tree Drive won hands down!

The prize? A dozen ears of fresh Florida bi-colored corn. Next year they'll be defending their title. You won't want to miss out.

Thanks to all who made this event possible.

My family and I moved to LBO in 1994. Easter weekend. We loved the sense of community here, the beautiful trees, (many of them missing today), as well as beautiful homes neatly maintained.

So what are the makings of a successful community?

There are several components but here are three important ones:
1 - Participation
2 - Relationships
3 - Empathy

Being community means connecting, contributing, collaborating, committing and cultivating a culture that transforms residents into passionate advocates and active members. Working together towards common goals brings people together. At LBO we see many of these key components that have made this small neighborhood a lovely little place to live.

Let's continue to work together to build and maintain a strong and healthy community!

Lake Bosse Oaks has a rich history of events that bring our community together.

The Holiday Block Party and Light Up LBO is a highlight of the year for us all. It's a joy to walk around enjoying the lights, greeting neighbors, and enjoying the hospitality offered. When friends from outside the neighborhood join us for this event, I often hear them say "Wow! You have the BEST neighborhood!" or "I've never seen anything like this!" And it's true! We are unique!

The rest of the year, we celebrate our uniqueness by decorating our mailboxes, coming together for Wine Downs or pancake breakfasts, chalking up our driveways, hiding elves, or cheering on the kids (and adults!) at the 4th of July Bike Parade.

Behind the scenes of all these events, is a small, dedicated group of neighbors led by Debi Walter. That's the good news! The not-so-great news? We need more volunteers to assist with planning and executing all these wonderful events! Would you love to gather with other adults from LBO for a wine/scotch/appetizer party? Or, might you want to help plan the 4th of July events for the children of the neighborhood? Maybe you have a new idea that would help celebrate our community in new ways!

If events aren't your "thing", maybe you'd like to volunteer to plant flowers at the front entrance a couple of times a year. Or, if you like to decorate, we could use your help putting up holiday decorations at both entrances several times a year.

In the past few years, many LBO neighbors have gotten involved with the People of Lockhart. (Here's a big shout-out to Lindsey Smestad and Lucy Barnes for taking on officer positions with POL!) POL works every month cleaning up Lockhart, increasing our property values and making us safer. The importance of their work cannot be overstated. Would you be willing to pick up trash once a month, paint a fence, or weed a garden? POL needs our help!

We have a dedicated group of volunteers who make up the LBO Board of Directors, but they can't do it all. If you have just a few extra hours a month to improve our community, we would love to connect you with a project that would bring you joy! And best of all, you'll make some new friends along the way!
